Greetings from Room 117! What a busy, yet productive week we have had! Our theme for this week is Friendship! We have had so much fun talking about what qualities a good friend should have, what good friends do, and who our good friends are! We even explored some friendship books! We especially liked Jack and Rick, a story about 2 animal friends. We then answered the writing prompt "What is your favorite thing to do with your best friend?" Students wrote a short response and illustrated a picture for their story. Ask to see your little learner's story...they will bring it home today!
Tomorrow we will be visiting our pen pals from Mrs. Soriano's class at Myers Corners Elementary School. We are so excited! We will be gone from 12:00-1:30. While we are visiting, we will be getting to know our pen pals and will be sharing our favorite books about friendship. If you or your child have a favorite friendship book at home, please include it in their backpacks so they can share the story with their pen pal.
We learned about the "ow" and "ou" sounds as in "cow" and "round". Please remember to review the Dolch First Grade Word List with your child. If you lost the list I sent home, the list can be found here. Next week we will study the words starting with "old" and ending with "then." Making flashcards out of index cards are a great way to help your student study.
If you would like to read any additional books about friendship with your child, the following are highly recommended: A Boy,A Dog,A Frog and A Friend by Mercer Mayer, Berenstain Bears Trouble With Friends by Jan & Stan Berenstain, Best Enemies, Again by Walter Lorraine, and Best Friends by Steven Kellogg. You can also visit your local library for more books and ideas!Have a safe and happy weekend! As always, if you have any questions or comments, you can e-mail me at jend12533@yahoo.com.
